Staff and volunteers have distributed hundreds of art kits to those impacted by the Los Angeles fires.

Volunteers help pack and distribute almost 1,000 art kits in Los Angeles.

It’s been a while since you’ve heard from us. When the year began, we were focused on one thing: getting our new space ready to reopen. Then, catastrophe struck and knocked us all off balance. The fires impacted our staff, our community, and the city we’ve called home.

In the wake of this crisis, we knew we had to act. With the support of incredible partners Blackwing, Bobos and GX100, we've been able to provide hundreds of art kits—filled with supplies, snacks, and thoughtful goodies—to help individuals and families process grief, find moments of peace, and connect with each other. We began our art kits and Plorkbooks programs in the early days of the pandemic, and thanks to the resilience and resourcefulness of Los Angeles, we’ve been able to continue this good work.

We’ve been blown away by the generosity of our community, with people stepping up in incredible ways: Alan Nakagawa picking up kits for Love Hour, our new volunteer Joel delivering supplies to Pasadena Community Jobs Center, Wendy MacNaughtonrallying volunteers to build kits in the Bay Area, and so many others are helping ensure these resources reach those who need them most.

We’re still on track to reopen, and you’ll hear more from us soon. But right now, our focus remains on recovery. Thank you to our volunteers, donors, and distribution hubs—you remind us of the strength and generosity that defines this city. Soon we will open our doors so we can do even more. Until then, we’ll keep showing up!
