Art Kits

CAC’s art kits program was launched in 2020, in the early days of the pandemic when we were all sheltering in place and in need of creative activities to keep ourselves busy. As a free, portable, and tangible extension of our Corita 101 arts education program, our art kits come packed with Corita-inspired art activities and coloring sheets, a copy of our Plorkbook, and a wide range of art supplies, Corita stickers, and nonperishable snacks.

Corita 101 art kits are also a way that we deliver programming and meet people where they are. This includes the time we pulled our CAC mobile trailer (nicknamed the "loaf of hope" with Corita's wonderbread on the side) up to Casa Esperanza to distribute art kits to kids who were participating in our virtual Corita 101 workshop with artist Patrick Martinez. Each iteration is customized with a partner nonprofit in mind, as in the case of our Artivism series at The Center In Hollywood, where art kits created an opportunity for us to share creative tools with our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Since then, we have made art kits a key component of our mission to preserve and promote Corita Kent’s art, teaching, and passion for social justice. Each year, as part of our Corita Day celebration, CAC staff, volunteers, and attendees come together to assemble hundreds of art kits to go out to the community in time for the holidays. Art kits are distributed through our nonprofit service partners, and our team also set aside a number of kits to be handed out to families during daily activities in public spaces like laundromats and public parks.

We couldn’t do this without our staff and our incredible volunteers; and to our partner organizations who are instrumental in making sure that they reach those who needed them the most.
