About Corita Art Center (CAC):
Corita Art Center preserves and promotes Corita Kent’s art, teaching, and passion for social justice. Housing the most comprehensive collection of Corita’s serigraphs, watercolors, graphic commissions, and archival materials, Corita Art Center supports exhibition loans and public programs, oversees image and merchandising rights, sells original prints, and serves as a scholarly resource for her life and work.
Position Summary
Corita Art Center is seeking a welcoming and highly organized Gallery Assistant to serve as the front-of-house support for visitors, school groups, and various partners. This role provides administrative support and assists the Public Programs Curator in coordinating events, school groups, partnerships, and educational outreach initiatives. The ideal candidate will be passionate about art and education, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to enhancing visitor experiences at the Center.
Principal Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Visitor Engagement and Front Desk Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for visitors, providing information about current exhibitions, programs, and Corita Kent's legacy.
- Manage visitor check-in, admissions processing, and orientation for school groups, volunteers and other scheduled tours.
- Answer phone calls, respond to emails, and handle general inquiries.
Administrative Support
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating logistics for public programs, school groups, and events.
- Maintain up-to-date records for partnerships, educational outreach, and visitor attendance.
- Provide administrative support to the Public Programs Curator and Executive Director for project management, including event planning, communication with partners, and program evaluation.
Program Coordination
- Assist in preparing materials and setting up for events and educational programs.
- Coordinate with educators, artists, and partners to ensure smooth delivery of school group tours and workshops.
- Participate in outreach activities to build and maintain relationships with local schools, community groups, and cultural organizations, promoting the Center's educational offerings.
- Manage photo documentation during onsite public programs as needed.
General Support
- Operational support for the opening of Corita Art Center’s new location in March 2025.
- Assist with responding to inquiries to general info email.
- Help maintain the gallery space, ensuring it is clean, organized, and accessible, and assist as needed.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining office supplies, ensuring the gallery and office areas are well-stocked and orderly.
- Provide administrative support for special projects, including research, data entry, and report generation as requested by senior staff.
- Act as the first point of contact for guests, managing visitor flow, and providing exceptional customer service.
- Perform general administrative duties, such as filing, copying, running errands, and supporting marketing, education, programming, and website updates.
- Assist with internal communication among staff regarding program updates, schedule changes, and logistical needs.
- Complete special projects and basic research as assigned to enhance operational efficiency and visitor experience.
- As needed, assist in preparing meeting materials, taking minutes, and ensuring follow-up on action items from team and partner meetings.
- Completes all other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and skill required for the job

Qualifications
Minimum Education, Training, and Traits:
- BA in Art, Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies, Education or related filed preferred; current pursuit of degree welcomed.
- Work experience in an art museum, commercial gallery, or collections-centered organization preferred.
- The ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities is imperative.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with diverse audiences, including children, educators, and community members.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with database management. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud a plus, but not required.
- Comfortable working in a lean but efficient team
- Knowledge and understanding of art history, design history, and arts education a plus
- Highly attentive to detail and able to work collaboratively
- Enthusiasm for the mission of Corita Art Center and interest in promoting Corita Kent’s legacy of love, hope, and activism through art.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
- Valid work authorization in the U.S.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office software including: Outlook, Word, Excel
- Experience with data entry a plus
- Familiarity with current trends, issues, and best practices in the field of the visual arts
- Knowledge of digital communication platforms (social media, email marketing, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must have excellent attendance and punctuality
- Strong organizational skills and analytical skills
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
- Ability to multi-task and think critically
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines with minimal supervision

Physical Demands and Work Environment

- Physical Demands: In the work environment described herein, the position requires good eye/hand coordination and working at a desk, and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time. The position also requires verbal and written conversation with others, standing, climbing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting/moving objects up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
- Work Environment: The majority of work will be performed in a hybrid model, an at-home environment, with days required at the CAC offices. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Work requires occasional independent travel to and from off-site meetings and events. Occasional weekend, evening, and night work hours are also required. CAC wants to ensure the health and safety of all workers in the workplace and therefore follows local orders, state regulations, and guidance from government agencies like the CDC, OSHA, EEOC, and local health authorities.
- Employees are required to complete a criminal background check and provide at least three work references. This position may interface with the public with all precautions and considerations to address COVID-19. The health and safety of all is our primary goal and consideration. All precautions and protocols will meet LA County requirements.
